Pakhtoon Khwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) of Balochistan has forwarded its demand of a separate Pashtoon province to Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms, reliable sources told Business Recorder. According to sources, during Thursday's meeting of the Committee, Senator Abdul Rahim Khan Mandokhel of PkMAP, while placing this demand before the Committee, said that it was a call of time to make a separate province for Pashtoons.
Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) senators S.M Zafar and Wasim Sajjad supported Mandokhel's demand. "If federation does not fulfil our demand then it should give the Pashtoon people an equal share in administration and judiciary of Balochistan," the sources quoted Mandokhel as saying. The sources said that Abdul Rahim Khan Mandokhel made this demand in the earlier meetings of the Committee, but Chairman Senator Mian Raza Rabbani had said that this issue would be taken up at the end.
Now the Committee has almost completed its work and Mandokhel raised this issue again in Thursday's meeting. Some members of the Committee supported this proposal. When contacted, S.M. Zafar confirmed that his party had supported the demand, saying that there was a dire need of a provision pertaining to rearrangement of provinces in the constitution, so that no difficulty should be faced in future while carving out new provinces.
"We should make such amendments in the constitution so that there is no hurdle in future if we have to rearrange the provinces," S.M Zafar said. He said that there were 12 provinces of India when it was established now it had as many as 31 provinces.
The sources said the members of the committee began to give a final reading of the draft of recommendations. They said that committee will meet at 11:00 am at Parliament House on Friday to continue its work on the final draft of recommendations.
After the meeting of the committee, some Parliamentary reporters went to the Chamber of Chairman Raza Rabbani and requested him to inform them about the work of the Committee. He told them that he would give a short briefing to media on Friday (today) after the meeting.
