On the 91st birthday of late singer Madam Noor Jehan, Google has paid tribute to the Malika-e-Tarannum by dedicating a Google Doodle in her honor.

Giving a small tribute to the late singer, google wrote, “[The] doodle captures Jehan’s unique singing stance – her chin titled up, her head flung out and a flower in her hair. Happy Birthday, Madam.”

Born in Kasur on September 21, 1925, Noor Jehan started singing from the age of five with taste in both traditional folk and pop theatre. Starring in plays and local theatre, Noor Jehan was spotted by directors in Calcutta, which led her to the big screen. Despite starring in hit movies, her voice was above all.

The late singer also ruled the hearts of millions across the border. After independence, she was mostly known for her patriotic songs, which earned her the title of ‘Malika-e-Tarannum’ (The Queen of Melody). Not only that, but she was also awarded the ‘Sitara-i-Imtiaz’ (Star of Excellence) and ‘Tamgha-e-Imtiaz’ (Medal of Excellence) by Government of Pakistan. She also achieved the Life Time Achievement Award twice.

Some of her famous songs that still prevail in our hearts include ‘Mujhse Pehli Se Muhabbat’, ‘Gaye Gi Dunya Geet Mere’, ‘Chandi Raatein’, ‘Aey Watan ke Sajeelay Jawanon’ and many more. The nation lost the legend on December 23, 2000 after a cardiac arrest.

Google Doodle has previously also paid tributes to renowned people including Abdul Sattar Edhi and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Other Google doodle tribute of today also include Mexican ballet dancer Amalia Hernandez’s 100th birth anniversary and Dr Samuel Johnson’s 308th birthday.
