Angelina Jolie speaks up against Rohingya crisis

Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie, who is a highly vocal humanitarian and a member of United Nations, has condemned the violence against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

Criticising the injustice being meted out to Rohingya Muslims, Jolie has demanded the country’s government and its leaders to take action against the unaccounted brutality and genocide. Furthermore, the human right activist especially asked the Nobel Prize recipient Aung San Suu Kyi to speak on the matter and to no longer remain silent on the issue.

Speaking to the weekly Welt am Sonntag on Sunday, Angelina said, "It is absolutely clear that the violence by the army needs to stop, the return of the refugees has to be permitted and that the Rohingya should be given civil rights." She added, "We all wish that Aung San Suu Kyi will be the voice of human rights in this situation".

Myanmar is majorly populated by Buddhist, who have been implicating brutalities on the Rohingya Muslims since decades, even declining them citizenship. The present catastrophe has led more than 400,000 Rohingya to flee to Bangladesh in the past three weeks.
