PIA dispels all allegations of corruption, mismanagement

Published Updated

KARACHI: PIA management Saturday dispelled all allegations of corruption and mismanagement and stressed major stakeholders of national flag carrier – shareholders and members of Board of Directors are fully aware of airline’s financial and operational situation.

Approval of five year PIA Business Plan to turn around airline by Federal government is clear indication of present management’s integrity and professional competence. It consists of acclaimed professionals of global aviation industry and is determined to not only root out corruption but also turn around airline following correct business practices, official rules of business so that corrupt elements may not find any escape route.

PIA says national flag carrier is under constant attack of allegations by vested interests. PIA management continues to make sustained efforts by explaining situation not only to elected organs of state, media, representatives of PIA employees. Last week management invited CBA, PIASSA, PALPA, representatives of other Associations. After discussions and on their suggestion Managing Director PIA decided to form Advisory Committee for Prevention of Corruption in PIA comprising Presidents of CBA, PIASSA, PALPA, other Associations, management representative.

They were asked to point out cases of corruption so that management could take proper legal action against the corrupt but these associations requested management to defer committee till after new elections of these bodies are held so that freshly elected representatives may participate in Committee, a PIA press release said.

Two lease aircraft Boeing 747 acquired to compensate fleet during Hajj Operation to supplement Hajj operations and regular scheduled flights. These two will cost US$7.1 million. So far, PIA earned through these aircraft, revenue of about $6.5 million and expected to further earn another $6.5 million which will total up to $13 million till finalization of lease period which is December 15, 2011 for both aircraft. It is totally wrong these two Boeing 747 on lease were ever offered to PIA for sale.

PIA issued international tender for engaging Fuel Hedging Consultant of International repute; only one person from Canada responded. PIA invited him for presentation on his expertise on fuel hedging. He has not given his consent to visit Pakistan as he was already preoccupied.
