Indian model turned actress Sonika Singh Chauhan lost her life in a car crash accident on Saturday morning. She was in a relationship with Bengali actor Vikram Chatterjee, who was also injured in the car accident.
According to India Today, Sonika was travelling in a car with actor Vikram Chatterjee, when the driver reportedly lost control. The car crashed into a footpath stall near Lake Mall on Rashbehari Avenue in south Kolkata.
The incident took place at around 4am on Saturday morning and locals rescued Vikram and Sonika from the mangled remains of the vehicle. While both were rushed to the hospital, Sonika was declared dead by doctors.
Vikram was initially released after first aid but the actor was later admitted in a private hospital after he complained of illness. Sonika's body has been sent for post-mortem.
According to the reports, Vikram was driving rashly, but the police are still investigating to check whether the actor exceeded the speed limit or not.
Sonika came to the forefront when she participated in a popular pageant contest - Miss Diva in 2013. She couldn't win but she was adjudged Miss Popular among the lot. She was also popular in Mumbai modelling circuits and has also been hosting a prime time TV show on a national channel.
Meanwhile, celebrities have expressed their shock about the whole incident and condoled Sonika's death.
