The Pakistan Super League (PSL) would kickoff the playoffs round today (Tuesday), as Peshawar Zalmi lock horns against the Quetta Gladiators in the first qualifying final match at Sharjah.
The last time both sides met in the battle for the finals in 2016, Quetta Galdiators emerged the victorious after defeating the Peshawar Zalmi by mere one run.
This time around, the Sammy led Zalmis are a charged up side not lacking any enthusiasm and fan support, with a win in their last match thanks to a breathtaking knock by Shahid Afridi and topping the tables.
The Zalmis will be pumped up, but will lack the contributions from fellow Bangladeshi opener Tamim Iqbal and all- rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who departed due to national duty.
Furthermore, Sammys side would not have the services of Eoin Morgan, who headed home to lead England for a three-match ODI rubber in the Caribbean.
Quetta on the other hand, with two losses in their last two matches first against the Islamabad United and then against the Zalmis, would be well aware with the capabilities of Sammy men.
The Sarfraz led side too, has lost the services of Sri Lankan fast bowler Thisara Parera, and Bangladeshi batsman Mahmadullah, who left the league to represent their respective countries.
However, the inspirational Sir Vivian Richards who is all too aware with the art of bringing out the best from his team would be at the disposal of Quetta, could bring the tide back into the favor of the Gladiators.
