Task force on ginning dissolved

Published February 25, 2007 Updated February 25, 2007 12:00am

The Minister for Industries and Production, Jehangir Khan Tareen, has dissolved the task force on ginning, Business Recorder learnt on Saturday. Chairman, Task Force on Ginning, Masood Majeed, confirmed the task force dissolution, saying that the Minister in the meeting on February 20 took the decision and subsequently the members were informed on February 22 at its (task force) meeting in Multan.
He said that the monitoring task has been withdrawn from Engineering Development Board and given to the Technology Up-gradation and Skill Development Company (TUSDC). Another official said that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Engineering Development Board, Imtiaz Rastgar, has sought machine drawing back from the Amanullah, Ginning Machinery Manufacturer, who was tasked to manufacture two such machines, probably for improvement in designs.
The task force that manufactured the first indigenous saw-gin machine, was headed by Masood Majeed with Mehmood Ahmed, Ginner, Dr Muhammad Yaseen Bhatti from Agriculture Research Institute Multan, Amanullah, Mehbood Ahmed and Khalid Kifah from Smeda as its members.
The task force on ginning had developed a saw-gin machine locally for the first time in the last 40 years that had increased production 2.5-fold as compared to the conventional machine with a far less consumption of power. The power consumed by this machine is 2.66 kw against 5.478 kw by the conventional machines. The prototype machine is easy to maintain, easy to fit and is labour-saving.
The task force was constituted in July 2005 to improve the quality of cotton and ginning machinery. The Pakistan Cotton Standard Testing Institute had also confirmed higher production of the new machine as compared to the conventional one.
