MILAN: The Italian market jumped by five percent mid afternoon on Thursday, driven up by bank shares after EU leaders came up with a rescue plan to try to stem the economic crisis in the eurozone.

At 1205 GMT, the FTSE Mib index, which had opened up 2.68, was up 5.14 percent.
