imageThe sporting world was stunned last month after a plane carrying the players, directors and staff of Brazilian Chapecoense team crashed inflicting one of the biggest losses to the game of football.

A Brazilian footballer, who was one of lucky six that survived the dreaded plane crash, has revealed that his teammates last minute invitation to sit beside him was the reason why he was still alive.

Chapecoense full-back Alan Ruschel was sitting near the back of the plane when club director Cadu Gaucho asked him to switch plane seats en route to play in the Copa Sudamericana final last month.

"Cadu Gaucho asked me to sit further forward and let the journalists sit together at the back," Ruschel told, reported The Mirror.

"I didn't want to but then I saw (Jackson) Follman and he insisted that I sit beside him," he added.

The 27-year-old defender, was sobbing while he recalled the dreaded plane crash that killed 71 people, including 19 players, on its way to the Copa Sudamericana final

"Only God can explain why I survived the accident. He grabbed me and gave me a second chance," he said.

Ruschel said he has avoided news of the tragedy, but he questioned the pilots intentions. When they told me what happened it seemed like a dream, a nightmare, Ruschel said.

Little by little theyve been telling me what happened and Im starting to understand. I try not to speak of the accident, I avoid the news, but from the little Ive seen, I think it was greed on the pilots part.
