Despite all the controversies surrounding the game including deprivation of international shows at home and confrontations with rival cricketing boards, cricket remains the most loved sport in Pakistan. The game has been able to maintain its grip on the hearts and minds of the Pakistani nation.
Furthermore, the games popularity has not been confined to the majority Muslim populace, as we have enjoyed a fair share of Christian and Hindu cricketers, who have represented the country on national and international stages.
However, no member of Sikh community has been able to make a name in Pakistans greatest passion until the introduction of Mahinder Pal Singh, Pakistans first Sikh cricketer. Hailing from Nankana Sahib, Singh is the first person from the Sikh community to make into the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
"I am proud to make into the Pakistan Cricket Academy, and I am proud to represent the entire Sikh community of the country," said Singh in a Tweet post.
Singh, who is also the part of PCBs top 30 emerging cricketers, further stated that he wished to make his country proud in the coming future. He went on to thank his coaches and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shahryar Khan for trusting on his abilities and giving him the opportunity.
