PESHAWAR: Army Chief General Qamar Bajwa attended a ceremony at the Army Public School (APS) here on Friday to pay homage to students and staff members of the school, who were martyred in the deadly 2014 attack by militants.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Corps Commander Peshawar accompanied the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on the occasion.
The blood of APS victims is an obligation on the nation and the armed forces, the army chief said while addressing the memorial held to mark the two-year anniversary of the deadly school massacre.
We will remember the sacrifices of the APS children and all institutions stand with the bereaved families in their tragedy, the COAS said. We will continue the struggle and do whatever possible to live up to their expectations.
The army chief also said the nation and military institutions were standing firm with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the fight against terror.
Gen Bajwa said the armed forces guarantee security of the nation, adding that the Pakistani troops are striving to bring the war against terrorism to a conclusion in a bid to provide the country with a peaceful future.
We will not rest until terrorism is completely uprooted, the Army chief remarked.
More than 150 lives were lost in the Peshawar school massacre of December 16, 2014, the deadliest extremist attack in Pakistan's history. Time has not healed the wounds of the parents who are still in shock over the death of their children.
