BELGRADE: Slovenia's sole nuclear power plant Krsko (NEK) is back on the grid after regular maintenance, that takes place every 18 months, a NEK spokeswoman said on Sunday.
The plant, jointly owned by Slovenia and Croatia, was due to be restarted around Nov. 1 but the reconnection to the grid was delayed because additional work was required after maintenance on insulation valves of the reactor's pipes.
"On Nov. 5, the plant was reconnected to the grid," spokeswoman Ida Novak Jerele said in an email. Maintenance, which started on Sept. 30, had no environmental impact, the company said earlier.
NEK was built in cooperation with US firm Westinghouse Electric Corporation and started operating in 1982.
Earlier in 2016, Slovenia and Croatia extended its lifespan by 20 years to 2043.
