The Customs Department has seized 2,008 kilograms of heroin during 2003-04, which was 893 percent more than the corresponding year, Collector of Customs, Rawalpindi, Abdul Wadood Khan, said.
"Last year 203 kilograms of heroin was seized. Besides, 19 tonnes drugs have also been seized during this year," he told PTV.
Likewise, scanners have been installed at airports to thwart drugs smuggling.
Detective cameras were being used at the airports to check the movement of suspicious passengers, he said.
The Customs department was focussing on not only apprehending the carriers or individuals but also their main thrust was to smash smuggling rackets, he added.
