A world ranking Singaporean private firm has shown interest for investment in the information technology here as well as the transfer of technology.
This was stated by Sindh Minister for Information Technology (IT), Syed Mustafa Kamal, while talking to APP here on Friday.
He said Singapore Electronic System (SES) has carried out 90 percent of automation in Singapore as well as taken up projects in various parts of the world.
The minister said that at the invitation of the SES, he undertook a visit to Singapore.
He pointed out that the e-government programme of SES is exactly the same as that of the government of Sindh and the government of Pakistan.
Mustafa Kamal said that during the visit he was briefed at all those departments that have been computerised by the SES in Singapore.
He stated that he noticed a number of thinks that can be replicated here in Sindh as well as in Pakistan.
The minister was of the view that this would help bring technology as well as investment here.
He informed that at his meeting with the president of SES, Chang Yew Kong, he convinced him regarding the potential for investment in the IT sector in Sindh as well as in Pakistan.
The minister said that its a virgin market where there is infrastructure but there is less development and whosoever comes first would get the fruits out of that.
He stated that the SES had also researched a lot regarding the market in Sindh as well as in Pakistan.
The minister said that he informed the SES chief that Karachi is the main business hub in the country and it generates up to 68 percent of the revenue.
He stated that he further informed that Sindh is the place that can help make the entire country prosperous and therefore it is the right place for the investment.
Kamal said that the SES president agreed to come here to sign a memorandum of understanding and also set up an office of the company here.
He stated that the SES chief asked his organisations' vice president to visit Pakistan for the setting up of the company's own office here.
The minister was optimistic that there will be investment to the tune of tens of millions of dollars in the wake of such a collaboration. He said their presence here would also result in the transfer of technology and the local industry would also benefit from this.
