A major investment of Rs 200 million to acquire latest biscuit manufacturing plant from Imaforni, Italy, will be made by the English Biscuit Manufacturers (EBM), makers of popular Peak Freans brand, towards the expansion of their current facility, according to a press release issued here.
The plant, officially started production on February 18 after formal inauguration by the EBM Managing Director, Khawar M. Butt, offers the capability to produce a wide range of innovative and value-added products with uniform baking facility.
Through operation of the newly installed plant, the production capacity has increased by 40 percent to 21,600 tonnes per month.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawar Butt said that the establishment of the fifth manufacturing line had marked a very significant beginning for the EBM as it was now fully geared up with the state-of-the-art technology to not only sustain the market leadership, but also compete successfully in the upcoming World Trade Organisation (WTO) regime.
"We now possess the cutting edge to compete with any international brand on quality and variety fronts," he said.
Since 1999, the EBM has invested over Rs 500 million to increase their production capacity.
The recent enhancement has been brought about keeping in view the increasing consumer preference for Peak Freans brands, especially Sooper.
This has been evident from the landmark sales growth of over 45 percent of Peak Freans brands in the market during 2003, once again establishing the pioneer in biscuit manufacturing as the making leader.
