Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that the crippling disease of polio has been effectively controlled in the province in co-operation with the World Health Organisation, while the health department has also been directed for implementation of a comprehensive programme for controlling hepatitis El, tuberculosis and other ailments.
He was talking to a delegation, led by representative of WHO David Hiyman, which called on him here.
Provincial minister for health Dr Tahir Ali Javed, chief secretary Punjab Kamran Rasool and secretary health Shahid Rasheed were also present on the occasion.
The provincial chief executive appreciated the role played by the health department and WHO in controlling polio.
He said: "Teaching hospitals, district and tahsil headquarters hospitals, basic health centres are being upgraded to ensure provision of best health care facilities both in urban as well as rural areas."
