The Supreme Court will not have a bench working here during the next week from Monday, February 9.
There was no cause list detailing the composition of the benches or the case assigned to them for the Federal Capital available on Saturday. However, the notice board had cause lists for Karachi and Lahore.
The First Bench, headed by Chief Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui with other judges and a Division Bench will sit at Karachi, while the Second Bench led by Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will hold sessions in Lahore.
Majority of the case to be heard concern appeals in service matters by aggrieved government servants or employees of public corporations, while the second largest number is of claims on property or determination of ownership or share in inheritance.
The First Bench which had notified to All Pakistan Newspapers Society that it would be hearing its constitutional petition against the Newspaper Employees (Condition of Service) Act of 1973 and hence the 7th Wage Board, did not appear on the list of cases it has to hear during the week.
However, a 'proposed list' circulated among members of the Bar and also the Advocates-on-Record allocates it to coming February 17. But it is placed near-about the tail-end of the cases proposed for the day.
The full court of 12 Judges will return here in the week starting from February 16. Another case suggested for hearing next week is a petition by Asif Zardari.
A 'firm list' will appear at the next week-end after the Fixture Branch hearing about the availability of counsel appearing in the proposed cases for the dates indicated in the advance list.
The First Bench sitting in Karachi consists of Chief Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui, Justice Syed Deedar Hussain Shah and Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar.
The other will be a Division Bench comprising Justice Rana Baghwandas and Justice Hamid Ali Mirza. The Second Bench hearing cases at Lahore is composed of Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Faqir Muhammad Khokhar and Justice Falak Sher.
There was no cause list available here for courts sitting at Peshawar and Quetta as the Bar Association officials as well as the Supreme Court's judicial branch had not received it till Saturday.
