imagePakistan is a country bursting with talent and potential, all required is the opportunity. For example, Pakistan a day ago unveiled its first Formula electric car, all developed by local innovators.

According to local media reports, the electric car has been developed by FERN (Formula Electric Racing NUST, a PNEC-NUST initiative). And the good news is that the car has been selected for SAE Lincoln 2016, a competition for undergraduates to be held in USA, from June 15 to 18.

“The car is the first to be selected for the Formula SAE Lincoln 2016, a leading competition for undergraduates, to be held in June this year,” said the team captain and NUST student Abdul Aleem.

Thirty teams from six different countries have qualified for the competition while Fern would represent Pakistan. Fern has earned the distinction for being the only team to be selected from Asia as well, Aleem said. The team consists of Abdul Aleem, Shariq Waqar, Ahsan Lakhani, Imran Riaz, and Syed Muhammad Taha Rizvi

Coming to the car, the vehicle runs Lithium Ion Polymer Batteries, weighs 275kg and is capable of achieving the top speed of 110 km/h, going from 0-75 km in breakneck 4.8 seconds. The other features include Rack & Pinion Type steering system, Single Piston custom made aluminum Calliper braking system, and an Unequal A-Arm suspension system with push rods with SP-4 way dampers.

As per reports, the whole project cost, which includes expenses of logistics and participation cost was estimated at Rs 5 million. Bank Alfalah financed the project requirement along with the participation expenses, through its “Rising Talent Award” program.
