imageAustralia captain Steve Smith has pulled out of the Indian Premier League because of wrist injury and leaving the tournament early.

According to media reports, Cricket Australia medical official Alex Kountouris said Smith had been struggling with pain in his right wrist for the last week, while playing for Rising Pune Supergiants.

“We have been working with his IPL franchise Pune to monitor this and unfortunately it has not resolved,” Kountouris said in a statement.

“As such, he will return home from India for further assessment and treatment ahead of the tour of the West Indies.”

Smith is Pune's fourth overseas player to have been ruled out of the ongoing IPL after Kevin Pietersen, Faf du Plessis and Mitchell Marsh.
