ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) had trained 40 farmers and field extension workers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province for using drip-irrigation in vegetable and nurseries farming.
In this regard PARC had also organized a workshop to demonstrate drip irrigation systems for vegetables and nurseries production at its National Tea and High Value Crop Research Institute (NTHRI) Shinkiari.
The officials of provincial government of KPK, farmers of major crops, representatives of non-governmental organization operating in the area and vegetable growers attended the workshop.
The participants were trained about the efficient use of water through drip irrigation system and were also apprised about potential of drip irrigation systems in the country.
They were also informed that the farmers could easily install and handle drip irrigation systems especially in tunnel farming for enhancing their per acre output.
The participants acknowledged PARC role in developing agriculture sector and emphasized for strengthening linkages with local farmer organizations and NGOs of KPK.
It may be recalled that PARC, has also launched a project for advocacy and projection of its research and development activities to benefit the farmers with adoption of new knowledge, technologies and innovations.
