portKARACHI: Brisk shipping was observed at the Port Qasim where six ships carrying containers, chemicals, iron ore and furnace oil were allotted berths at Qasim International Container Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal, Iron ore & Coal Berth and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Thursday, 18th August.

Berth occupancy was maintained at 62% at the Port on Thursday where a total of eight ships namely C.V Izumo, C.V Nele Maersk, C.V CMA CGM Eiffel, M.V Tycoon II, M.V Afamia, M,V Mahmut Saka, M.T East Med Gas and M.T Pacific Energy are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, chemicals, Iron ore and furnace oil respectively during last 24 hours.

A volume of 62,645 tonnes, comprising 77,985 tonnes import cargo and 26,420 tonnes export cargo inclusive of containerized cargo carried in 2,748 containers (TEUs) was handled at the Port during last 24 hours.

A total six ships M.V New Sun, C.V CMA CGM Strauss, C.V Izumo, C.V Nele Maersk, C.V CGM Eiffel and M.T East Med Gas sailed out to sea during last 24 hours.

Container ship Glory and Chemicals carrier Long Champ are expected to take berths at QICT and EVTL respectively on Friday, 19th August 2011.
