imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif said on Friday that electricity generation in the country had increased by 1,500 megawatt as compared to the last year.

"The power generation in the country last year was 10,000 MW. But due to the government's efforts this year it has reached to 11,500 MW, registering an increase of 1,500 MW," the minister said while briefing media here about the current situation of power generation in the country.

He said that as compared to last the demand of electricity had increased around 500 MW. He said that power projects of 8,370 MW had been signed with China during Chinese President's visit to Pakistan. He said that all these projects would be implemented in all the provinces, including AJK as the government believed in equitable distribution of resources.

"These projects will bring an investment of 20 billion dollars. This is not loan but a direct foreign investment," he added.

Asif said the government had ensured zero load-shedding to the industrial sector in the last four months. He said due to government's efforts the recovery had increased around 2.3% as compared to last year, while line losses had decreased 1% adding that the circular debt was 70 billion dollars lower as compared to the last year.

He said that the situation of oil in the country was satisfactory and added that at present no power plant in the country was closed due the gas issue.

He said the imported LNG would be given to the five power plants which would increase their efficiency.
