world-bankLIMA: The World Bank said on Monday it is standing by its forecast for economic growth of 4.45 percent this year in Latin America despite turmoil in European and US financial markets.

Augusto de la Torre, the multilateral lender's chief economist for the region, warned however that expansion in 2012 was "subject to uncertainty."

He said the region, which depends heavily on commodities exports, would be hurt if China's economy suffered a sharp slowdown and encouraged Latin American economies to diversify to weather downturns.
