Practical steps being taken to generate electricity: Sher Ali

imageLAHORE: Provincial Energy Minister Choudhry Sher Ali on Thursday said the government was working on all available as well as alternate resources to generate ample electricity which would help bridge the gap between demand and supply.

Talking to APP, he said, the PML-N led government was committed to eliminate load shedding and had taken practical steps for this purpose. He said, sufficient availability of energy was need of the hour which would definitely help raise the industrial growth, increase Pakistan's exports, alleviate poverty and reduce unemployment.

He said, generation of 3600 MW electricity from the Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) till 2017 was on cards while work on hydel power projects including 969 MW Neelum-Jehlum Project, 425 MW Nandipur, 1400 MW 4th Extension of Tarbela Power House was also underway. "We are exploiting resources including coal, solar, wind and biomass for obtaining energy," he added.

The minister said, owing to personal efforts of Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, provincial government had succeeded in discovering mineral and ores in Rajwat-Chiniot. He said, exploration work on over 400 kilometre area was also being carried out to discover more natural resources.

Sher Ali said, the PML-N government was altogether committed to defeat terrorism and extremism and also striving for better law and order situation. "We have started operation Zarb-e-Azb against terrorists and would continue till the elimination of last terrorist," he pledged.
