JAKARTA: Indonesian President Joko Widodo's on Wednesday dropped his sole nomination for the post of national police chief after public outcry over the candidate's implication in a bribery scandal.
Budi Gunawan, was named a corruption suspect by the anti-graft agency, forcing the president to delay the appointment for more than a month.
"Today, we put forward a new candidate to parliament for approval," Widodo told reporters at the presidential palace in Jakarta, adding that the new candidate was current interim police chief Badrodin Haiti.
Widodo also suspended two top officials at the anti-corruption agency after police named them as suspects in separate cases.
