Transporters penalised for overcharging

FAISALABAD: The district transport department has imposed fine on transporters for various violations including overcharging from passengers during last one and half month.

According to official sources, the departmental teams issued tickets to 1,528 vehicles on overcharging from passengers and suspended route permits and fitness certificates of 99 vehicles, adding that 415 vehicles were also impounded at different police stations.

However, overcharged Rs 57,180 by the transporters were also returned to the passengers.

The teams also checked about 5,000 public vehicles at 69 different points in the district during the period and took action against transporters, said sources.
