KARACHI: Two retailers dealing in essential food items business have been arrested and another 94 were fined of Rs. 1,27,800 for overcharging or fleecing consumers under one or the other pretext, said Commissioner of Karachi, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui here on Wednesday.
Sharing details of the crackdown conducted against profiteers, adulterators and black marketeers in the city on regular basis he said the momentum against these unassuming criminals have to be maintained and that this also needed to be supported by the consumers themselves.
Siddiqui said the administration has also attempted to reactivate different associations working for protection of consumers' rights at different levels.
About the latest fined violators of business rules were said to include 58 milk sellers, four grocers, 21 green grocers, six fruit sellers and five chicken sellers.
The two arrested shopkeepers have sent to jail after completion of required legal procedure by he administration.
