LOS ANGELES: Legendary US music producer Phil Spector looks every one of his 73 years in newly-released prison mugshots, published five years after he was jailed for murder.
Staring at the camera with a gaunt face and mostly bald head, Spector appears a faded figure from the flamboyantly-coiffed producer he once was, seen as one of the most influential figures in music history.
He smiles widely in one of the two pictures, taken last year at the prison where he is held near Los Angeles but only just published.
His gray hair straggles down the back of head, a stark contrast to the huge frizzy hair-dos -- or wigs -- that he used to sport. Spector was jailed for 19 years in 2009 for the 2003 murder of an ex actress at his east Los Angeles mansion. A jury found Spector guilty of shooting and killing Lana Clarkson hours after they met at a nightclub where she worked.
The producer has always claimed his innocence and his defense team argued at his trial that the 40-year-old Clarkson, depressed about the failure of her artistic career, committed suicide.
Spector was regarded as an iconic figure in pop music. In the early 1960s, he scored hits including "Da Doo Ron Ron," "Be My Baby" and "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin.'"
