Wapda expedites work on small dams for irrigation

ISLAMABAD: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has expedited work on the construction of small dams to irrigate over 130,000 acres of land in the country, said a Wapda official.

Speaking to APP, he said Nai Gaj Dam was being constructed in Sindh, Ghabir Dam in Punjab and Kurram Tangi Dam in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and FATA, adding the dams would help to store 650,000 acre feet of water, enough to irrigate more than 130,000 acres of land.

"These projects are of immense importance, which could alleviate poverty and help socio-economic development in the far-flung areas, besides controlling migration from the backward areas," said the official.

Naulong, Winder, Ghabir and Nai Gaj dams would be completed in three years.
