ISLAMABAD: Duber Khwar, Jabban and Satpara hydropower projects will start supplying 169 MW less-expensive electricity to the national grid system shortly as these projects are nearing to completion.
Official sources told APP here that Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is simultaneously working on a number of water and hydropower projects under a comprehensive strategy in line with the vision of the federal government.
Dilating upon the projects under short-, medium- and long-term plan, they said that the projects are at various phases of implementation.
They said the Satpara will contribute 17 MW, Jabban 22 MW and 130 MW Duber Khwar hydropower projects to the national grid system.
The sources said that 12851 MW will be available in the national grid under the medium term plan from 5 to 7 years, adding that another 14,970 MW of low-cost hydel energy will be inducted into the national grid under the long-term plan in a period of 7 to 10 years.
However, they said that in order to ensure timely completion of these projects, the funding is a crucial factor.
It is pertinent to mention here that the present government is paying full attention to power generation from indigenous and cheap sources such as hydel, coal, solar, wind and biomass.
Induction of low-cost hydel energy into the national grid is on the top of the government's power agenda which is aimed at providing relief to consumers by lowering electricity tariff.
