Adnan Sami to win Award of Recognition

Published March 18, 2013 Updated March 18, 2013 11:51am

adnan-samiKARACHI: For his contribution in the promotion of South Asian art, music and culture, Pakistani singer Adnan Sami Khan will be conferred an Award of Recognition on 21st March at the Legislature at Queen’s Park in the Ontario Parliament Canada.

Shafiq Qaadri, a part of the Etobicoke North provincial parliament, has also organized a special reception for him, and will give him a tour of the building.

The singer soared to popularity with his dynamic voice belting out “Zara Dholki Bajao Gorio”, spaced a few years apart from his other hits “Kabhi To Nazar Milao”, “Tera Chehra” and “Lift Kara De.” His fan following is not limited to Pakistan but extends to India too, owing perhaps to the fact that he also sings in other languages including Tamil and Telugu.

The composer feels greatly honored with the acknowledgement. He admits feeling “blessed” that his God-gifted talent allows him to bring a smile to people’s faces.

His recent album “Press Play” seems to have won him great acclaim, judging from the number of performances he has lined up this year, including the one at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto on 22nd March.

In relation to his concert at KL, Malaysia last month, he was given the Brandlaureate Personality Award, which has earlier been bestowed on the likes of Bollywood megastar Shahrukh Khan.
