00-0015 ST. GEORGE'S: West Indies defeated Zimbabwe by 156 runs to win the opening one-day international at the National Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Johnson Charles (130) and Darren Bravo (100 not out) steered the West Indies to a daunting 337 for four off 50 overs in the first of three ODIs.

Zimbabwe then struggled to 181 for nine off their 50 overs with Malcolm Waller top-scoring with 51.

The second and third matches in the series take place at the same venue on Sunday and Tuesday.
