Growers protest low tobacco rates

SWABI: The Farmers Coordination Council on Thursday held a demonstration at Jugnat Bridge here to protest low rates of tobacco.

A large number of farmers and office-bearers of the council participated in the demonstration.

Speaking on the occasion, the council leaders warned that that if the purchasing rates of the tobacco were not increased they would discontinue growing of the crop from next year.

They said that the tobacco companies were exploiting the growers by buying the crop on very low rates and urged the Tobacco Board to ensure the price of the crop keeping in view the cost of production.
