Pakistan’s steel manufacturer resumes operations for export purposes

International Industries Limited, one of the largest steel manufacturers in Pakistan on Monday announced to resume its operations in all its factories across the country for exports.

“According to the relaxation given by the Government to the steel and the pipe industry, the Management of the Company has decided to gradually resume its plant operations at all 3 factories located at Factory 1, LX 15-16, Landhi Industrial Area, Karachi, Factory 2, 405-406 Deh Sherabi, Landhi, Karachi and Factory 3, 22, Sheikhupura Road, Lahore w.e.f. May 11, 2020 with all precautionary measures aimed at preventing the pandemic’s spread,” announced the company, in its filing to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

A similar statement was given by Mughal Iron and Steel Industries Limited, "we have re-commenced our plant operations and offices with effect from today. However, we remain fully dedicated to the safety, health and well-being of our employees by implementing safety protocols and ensuring strict adherence thereto. "

The development comes after Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in his meeting with small traders associations announced to open shops and markets, except plaza and shopping malls, from today (Monday) morning under an SOP, he shared with them.

“Now, the business activities would operate from 6 am to 4 pm and there will be grace period of an hour to close the shops and return to their home – because the lockdown will start from 5 pm sharp,” he said.
