Pakistan willing to facilitate Tesla with free land, tax breaks if company interested: Fawad

• Fawad Chaudhry said the government is looking forward to hear a positive response from Tesla.
• Pakistan auto sector is currently dominated by big three i.e. Honda, Toyota and Suzuki, however, the country is now keen to make itself a destination for electric vehicles manufacturers.

After inviting Elon Musk to build his next Tesla factory in Pakistan, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has said that the government would facilitate them with every incentive available.

"We will facilitate Tesla whatever way they may like. We will offer them free land in addition to tax breaks and looking forward to hear a positive response from Tesla," said Chaudhry, quoted Khaleej Times.

Earlier, the federal minister took to social media platform Twitter inviting the South African entrepreneur to build his next Gigafactory in Pakistan, while highlighting several incentives the country has to offer.

“Dear Elon Musk, your next destination may be Pakistan, 68 percent of the world's population lives within 3.5 hours flight radius from Islamabad, we offer 10 years zero tax facility and custom free import for factory setup, no other country may offer, plus we are world's third biggest freelance software exporters," said Chaudhry.

Pakistan auto sector is currently dominated by the big three i.e. Honda, Toyota and Suzuki, however, the country is now keen to make itself a destination for electric vehicles manufacturers. Last year, it was learnt that BYD, the Chinese multinational company and world's largest electric vehicles manufacturer is eager to enter Pakistan.

“Toyota, the world auto giant, for the first time signed an agreement on November 7, 2019, to develop Electric Vehicles with BYD, the world's largest electric vehicles manufacturer, with 44 plants around the globe employing 250,000 personals, with turnover of $250 billion," said Pakistan Electric Vehicles & Parts Manufacturers and Traders Association (PEVPMTA) General Secretary Shaukat Qureshi.
