The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will unveil Monetary Policy decision for next two months on Friday. Independent Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the SBP is scheduled to meet on Friday May 25, 2018, for deliberation on key economic issues to take a decision on policy rate for next two months. Governor SBP Tariq Bajwa will chair the monetary policy committee meeting to be held at SBP head office, Karachi. After the meeting, the SBP will announce the policy through a statement.
In the previous monetary policy announced on March 30th, the Monetary Policy Committee was of the view that some time may be allowed for the impact of recent policy developments to unfold and therefore it decided to maintain policy rate at 6.0 percent.
Most of economists are expecting that with rising inflation and higher current account deficit ($14 billion in ten months of this fiscal year), the committee may consider increasing policy rate by 25 to 50 basis points for next two months.
