Ramazan Bazaars: PFA asks food items producing companies to set up stalls in two days
Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has directed all the food items producing companies to set up their stalls in Ramazaan Bazaars in two days time so as to ensure quality of the products as well as availability on cheaper rates to the masses. PFA DG Noor ul Amin Mengal issuing these directions urged the companies not to rely on distributors rather ensure their presence directly to facilitate the faithful.
He also directed that the companies should provide their products at 20 percent discount. "Companies producing milk, ghee, cooking oil, spices, meat and beverages should come in to the field during this holy month, he added. Mengal was chairing a meeting of the representatives of the associations of all segments of the eatables in PFA office.
Punjab Minister for Planning and Development Malik Nadeem Kamran was also present in this meeting. DG PFA further said that a limit of purchasing should also be set at the company owned stalls so as to discourage profiteers and hoarders.
Punjab Minister Malik Nadeem Kamran appreciating the idea of PFA said that the district authorities and administration of Ramazan Bazaars would fully cooperate with PFA in this regard.
He also appreciated the efforts being made by the PFA to improve the quality of eatables.
DG PFA also offered full assistance to the food industry in hardships it is being faced. He said that it is the duty of PFA to ensure availability of quality food items in the province.
Meanwhile, PFA teams sealed two chicken sale points while checking various Ramazan Bazaars owing to sale of weak or ailing birds. As many as 16 food points were imposed a collective fine of Rs 315,000 on the charges of selling substandard food items, improper cleanliness arrangement and presence of expired food items.
The teams also wasted 546 kilograms of rotten fruits and vegetables on the spot and issued warning notices to numerous other food stalls for improving the condition.
During the routine visit of open markets, food safety teams made surprise check in Liberty Market, Moon Market, Gulberg, Mozang and Gulshan-e-Ravi and imposed heavy find on 16 food points owing to improper cleanliness, selling expired food items, presence of insects, using cosmetics colour etc.
