Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is going to crackdown on its former officers and the officials of Karachi Development Authority (KDA) to recover nearly 100 KMC's vehicles. The directive came from Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar who was presiding over a meeting of KMC's vehicle department here on Wednesday.
"Initially, the KMC's director vehicle would issue notices to the concerned officials to return the vehicles. If they refused to do so, the civic utility will have to make future course of action with consultation and guidance of the city Mayor." a KMC official told Business Recorder. He said as many as 80 KMC's vehicles are being used by Karachi Development Authority (KDA) officials whereas some 14 are under utilisation of ex-KMC senior officers.
To a question he said "It will take time for us to get our vehicles back, as we have to follow certain set of procedures. We have to design minutes for that," he added. It may be mentioned here that KDA remained part of KMC from 2001 to 2016. However; a few months back, the authority came under Sindh Government's control. Due to severe financial crunch being faced by the civic utility, the Mayor directed the KMC's concerned department to impose 3-month ban on payments of bills claimed by officers under the head of vehicle maintenance charges. He also ordered for physical verifications of vehicles so that their actual condition and utilization can be determined.
Mayor also asked the officials to submit 1-month fumigation schedule for six districts of the metropolis. All the 60 vehicles being used for fumigation purpose should be kept in proper condition. If there are any faults, they should be repaired properly before the launch of anti-septic drive, the mayor said.
