Pakistan has been dropped four places to 110 in the World Bank "ease of doing business" index for 2014 against 106 recorded last year, revealed the World Bank report. In "Doing Business 2014: Regional Profile South Asia" World Bank ranks Pakistan fourth amongst South Asian countries, below Sri Lanka, Maldives and Nepal, with Bhutan, Bangladesh, India and Afghanistan trailing far behind at 141, 130, 134 and 164, respectively.
'Doing Business' provides an aggregate ranking on the ease of doing business based on indicator sets that measure and benchmark regulations applying to domestic small to medium-size businesses through their life cycle. Economies are ranked on their ease of doing business, from 1-189. A high ranking on the 'ease of doing business index' means the regulatory environment is more conducive to operating a business.
