LAHORE: Punjab Police have finalised security arrangements for mourning processions, Majalis and Urs ceremonies on the occasion of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the Annual Urs of the Sufi Saint Hazrat Data Ali Hajveri (RA).
According to details, 730 Majalis will be held and 420 mourning processions will be taken out across the province on the occasion of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). More than 42,000 police officers and personnel will perform security duties across the province, including Lahore. In Lahore, over 10,000 officers and personnel will be deployed for the security of 44 Majalis and 17 processions. A total of 390 walk-through gates and 6,427 metal detectors will also be used for security screening.
IG Punjab Abdul Kareem said that comprehensive security arrangements will be ensured for Majalis, mourning processions and the Urs ceremonies of Data Sahib (RA). He said that the processions of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) will be continuously monitored through the cameras of the Safe Cities Authority, while the Elite Police, Traffic Police and volunteers will also assist in the security arrangements.
IG Punjab Abdul Kareem directed the CCPO Lahore, RPOs and DPOs to personally supervise the security arrangements for Majalis and mourning processions, while comprehensive measures should be taken to ensure the security of devotees arriving from across the country on the occasion of the Annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ali Hajveri (RA). He further directed that continuous monitoring of the Chehlum processions, Majalis and Urs ceremonies be ensured through Special Control Rooms.
IG Punjab directed that snipers be deployed on the rooftops of buildings along the routes of the mourning processions, while Lady Police personnel will be deployed for the search and security of female mourners.
