KARACHI: The Board of Directors of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) on Monday approved Rs54.38 billion budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 and endorsed the implementation of a SAP-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system aimed at improving financial transparency, accountability and operational efficiency.

The decisions were taken at a board meeting chaired by Karachi Mayor and KWSC Chairman Barrister Murtaza Wahab, where members reviewed the utility’s financial strategy, development priorities, operational requirements, revenue enhancement measures and plans to improve water supply and sewerage services across the metropolis.

According to the corporation, the approved budget is intended to strengthen KWSC’s financial sustainability, modernize its administrative and operational framework and enhance the quality of municipal services for Karachi’s residents.

Chief Financial Officer Ammar Ali Khan told the board that the SAP (Systems, Applications and Products) platform would digitize the corporation’s core financial and administrative functions, including budgeting, procurement, expenditure monitoring, financial reporting and departmental performance management.

He said the globally used ERP system would reduce reliance on manual processes, improve financial oversight and accountability, and provide real-time access to financial data, enabling better planning, efficient resource utilization and faster decision-making. The system is also expected to improve coordination among departments and reinforce financial discipline throughout the organization.

The board was informed that the approved budget allocates significant resources for upgrading the city’s water supply network, rehabilitating sewerage infrastructure, repairing and maintaining key installations, strengthening drainage systems, managing energy costs more efficiently, enhancing institutional capacity and improving customer services.

Reaffirming its commitment to improving public utility services, the board said the corporation would continue administrative and financial reforms to build a more efficient, transparent and accountable institution capable of meeting Karachi’s growing water and sewerage needs.
