ISLAMABAD: After the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) emerged as the largest party in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari declared that his party would attempt to form a government in the region.

In a post uploaded on the X platform in the wee hours of Monday, Bilawal Bhutto said, “The Pakistan Peoples Party is emerging as the single largest party, and we will be attempting to form a government. I am grateful to the people for their trust and congratulations to Jiyalas on their victory.”

Out of the 24 seats for the Legislative Assembly, unofficial final results of 21 seats have so far been announced, out of which the People’s Party has won nine, independents grabbed six, PML-N five, and Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen got one seat.

In constituency GB-1 (Gilgit-I), PPP candidate Amjad Hussain Advocate was declared successful after securing 10,594 votes. PML-N candidate Shafiq-ud-Din finished second with 6,316 votes.

The result for GB-2 (Gilgit-II) showed an independent candidate victory, with Syed Sohail Abbas securing 7,877 votes. PPP candidate Aftab Haider remained second with 7,394 votes.

In GB-4 Nagar-I, PPP candidate Muhammad Ali Akhtar won the seat with 7,654 votes, defeating Islamic Tehreek candidate Muhammad Ayub, who received 6,597 votes.

Another independent candidate, Neknam Karim, won the GB-6 Hunza constituency with 6,390 votes. PPP candidate Imtiaz-ul-Haq finished runner-up with 5,417 votes.

The lone victory for Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen came in GB-8 Skardu-II, where Muhammad Kazim secured 10,658 votes. PPP candidate Syed Muhammad Ali Shah was second with 10,065 votes.

In GB-11 Kharmang, PPP candidate Iqbal Hassan was declared successful after obtaining 5,944 votes, while PML-N candidate Syed Mohsin Rizvi received 4,589 votes.

PPP also claimed victory in GB-12 Shigar, where Imran Nadeem secured 12,944 votes, while ITP candidate Raja Muhammad Azam Khan stayed second with 8,682 votes.
