KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has decided to establish dedicated beautification zones across the megacity as part of a broader strategy aimed at improving urban infrastructure, expanding green spaces and enhancing Karachi’s overall civic landscape.

The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab to assess the progress of ongoing development projects and infrastructure schemes being executed in different districts of the metropolis.

Director General Technical Services Tariq Mughal briefed the participants on the status of district development projects, Provincial Annual Development Programme (ADP) schemes, CLICK project-related works and other ongoing civic infrastructure initiatives. Detailed updates regarding implementation progress, project timelines and pending works were also presented.

The Mayor directed all relevant departments to ensure the timely completion of development projects within the assigned deadlines. He stressed that no negligence would be tolerated in works related to road rehabilitation, drainage systems and civic infrastructure, particularly in view of forecasts predicting heavy monsoon rains in Karachi this year.

The Mayor said the city administration must ensure that citizens do not face avoidable difficulties during the rainy season. He instructed departments concerned to accelerate work on ongoing schemes to improve the

megacity’s preparedness for potential urban flooding and rain-related disruptions.

He observed that the impact of ongoing development activities had started becoming visible across different parts of Karachi. He said several major infrastructure schemes had already been completed, while many others were nearing completion, adding that visible improvements were gradually restoring public confidence in civic institutions and municipal services.

The Mayor also directed the Engineering Department to prepare comprehensive beautification and landscaping plans for major roads, corridors and infrastructure projects throughout the city.

He emphasised that every major development scheme should include urban landscaping, plantation drives, green belts, decorative features and environmentally sustainable infrastructure to improve the city’s appearance and environmental conditions.

He said Karachi was moving towards a positive transformation after years of infrastructural challenges and civic issues. “A better and brighter Karachi is emerging under the vision and leadership of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari,” the Mayor remarked.
