RAWALPINDI: Al-Shifa Trust has started services at its new eye hospital in Haveli Lakha, Okara, and extending specialised eye care to underserved populations in South Punjab.
The hospital, built on two acres of donated land, has begun functioning ahead of its formal inauguration scheduled for May 4. The facility will serve patients from Haveli Lakha, Depalpur, Pakpatan, Sahiwal and Bahawalnagar — areas that have long remained deprived of specialised eye treatment, said President of Al-Shifa Trust, Major General Rehmat Khan (retd).
He said that the total cost of the project is Rs162 million, including Rs122 million for construction and Rs40 million for medical equipment. The project was made possible through contributions from donors to improve access to quality healthcare in remote regions, he said.
Khan said that the hospital is designed to cater to up to 250 outdoor and indoor patients daily. In South Punjab, more than 1.8 million people suffer from blindness, with about 85 percent of cases considered avoidable.
