ISLAMABAD: China Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, on Thursday praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace in the Middle East and pledged continued support for strong bilateral ties.
In a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Jiang spoke of the strategic partnership between the two countries and discussed regional developments, including Pakistan’s role in recent US-Iran diplomatic engagements.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said Sharif conveyed greetings to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, and expressed satisfaction with the steady progress of Pakistan-China relations in trade, infrastructure, and regional cooperation.
Jiang’s visit comes amid heightened diplomatic activity in the region, with Pakistan positioning itself as a mediator in Middle East tensions.
The meeting followed a day after a meeting between Prime Minister Sharif and Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam on regional security, after Iran declined to participate in a second round of talks with US officials.
Islamabad has been actively advocating for diplomatic engagement to reduce tensions and support constructive negotiations.
