KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the allotment of over 22 acres of government land for the construction of a 6 MGD Rapid Gravity Water Treatment Plant in Hyderabad, aimed at addressing growing water needs and improving supply in Qasimabad and adjoining areas.

He took this decision while presiding over a meeting held at the CM House, attended by Minister for Planning & Development and Irrigation Jam Khan Shoro, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Chairman P&D Najam Shah, Secretary Finance Fayaz Jatoi, PSCM Agha Wasif and other senior officials.

Briefing the meeting, Minister P&D Jam Khan Shoro said that the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation had requested allocation of land in Deh Jamshoro, Taluka Qasimabad, for the project under the ADP Scheme. He added that district authorities identified approximately 25 acres of government land in Village Misri Shaikh, out of which 22 acres fall in Category “A-1” and are suitable for immediate utilisation.

The Chief Minister approved the proposal to earmark and allot 22-14 acres of land in favour of the Mayor, Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, for the construction of the water treatment plant.

Murad Ali Shah emphasised the urgency of improving urban water infrastructure and directed the authorities to ensure the timely execution of the project. “We must prioritise provision of safe and clean drinking water to our people, particularly in rapidly growing urban centres like Hyderabad,” the Chief Minister said.

The CM further directed the Planning & Development Department and local authorities to fast-track all legal and administrative formalities so that construction work could commence without delay.

The Chief Minister noted that the project would significantly enhance water treatment capacity and help meet increasing demand in Qasimabad and surrounding localities.
