ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration on Thursday announced two local holidays on April 9 and 10, while Islamabad police placed security on high alert in view of the upcoming visits of foreign dignitaries.

According to a notification issued by ICT administration, on April 9 and April 10 [Thursday and Friday] have been declared local holidays within the revenue limits of ICT except the office of essential services in Islamabad including Municipal Cooperation Islamabad (MCI), Capital Development Authority (CDA), ICT police, Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO), Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) and hospitals.

The city police have heightened security in the city, and it is going to enforce strict, multi-layered security arrangements across the federal capital during the visit of foreign delegations.

The Red Zone—which houses the Diplomatic Enclave, Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Parliament House, the Supreme Court, and other key government offices—will be partially sealed, with a heavy deployment of security personnel in and around the area.

A heavy contingent of police has been deployed on all roads leading to the Red Zone as well as in other parts of the city. Islamabad Police commandos, lady police personnel, mobile patrolling units, the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) were stationed at various locations.

Police also carried out strict checks at all entry and exit points of the federal capital.

The Islamabad Traffic Police issued a traffic advisory for the Islamabad Expressway in light of the movement of foreign delegations.

According to officials, traffic diversions will be placed on the expressway to ensure the smooth and secure passage of the delegations. Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys and allow extra travel time to avoid inconvenience.
