PM orders full digitalisation of National Tariff Commission

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed on Tuesday that all operational functions of the National Tariff Commission (NTC) should be fully digitalised to ensure transparency and quality.

A review meeting on ongoing reform measures to make the performance of the NTC more effective and aligned with international standards was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of PM Shehbaz, said the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in a press release today.

During the meeting, the chairman of NTC briefed participants on the legal, administrative, and financial reforms underway in the institution under the roadmap approved by the PM.

The premier said that after the institutional restructuring of the commission, its effective performance was essential for increasing domestic industry and investment.

“The prime minister directed that the legal and administrative issues of the NTC should be resolved under a comprehensive strategy in the context of promoting industry, trade, and investment,” the PMO said.

He also emphasised that the NTC should ensure facilitation for investors and industrialists and take special measures to protect them from legal and other complexities.

The premier directed that the best international practices should be reviewed to align the institution’s restructuring and performance with global standards.

National Tariff Commission, established under the National Tariff Commission Act, 2015, is Pakistan’s statutory trade remedies authority mandated to conduct quasi-judicial investigations into dumping, subsidised imports, and sudden surges in imports that injure the domestic industry.
