KARACHI: Sindh Governor, Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi hosted an Easter ceremony at the Governor House on Sunday, bringing together members of the Christian community, diplomats and officials in a show of interfaith harmony and national unity.
The event, held with simplicity in line with government austerity measures, was also attended by Chinese Consul General Yang Yundong, British Deputy High Commissioner Lance Domm, and diplomatic representatives from Russia and Germany,Minister of State for Religious Affairs Khel Das Kohistani, Sindh Assembly Deputy Speaker Anthony Naveed and Bishop Frederick John.
Addressing the gathering, Hashmi extended Easter greetings to the Christian community and said the purpose of the event was to promote interfaith harmony, tolerance and cohesion.
“The doors of the Governor House are always open to people of all faiths,” he said, adding that the Christian community had made significant contributions to Pakistan’s development.
Hashmi said that under the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, followers of all religions had the right to celebrate their festivals freely.
