Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have agreed to continue to coordinate their positions closely in order to secure peace and stability in the region.

This understanding was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in Islamabad on Sunday.

During the warm and cordial meeting, the prime minister warmly welcomed the Saudi foreign minister and conveyed his respectful regards for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and warm greetings for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

While reaffirming Pakistan’s full and unwavering solidarity and support with the Kingdom, Shehbaz appreciated the remarkable restraint exercised by Saudi Arabia amid the current crisis. He assured the Saudi Foreign Minister that Pakistan would always stand shoulder to shoulder with Saudi Arabia.

PM Shehbaz recalled his recent conversations with the crown prince, including their meeting in Jeddah on March 12. He shared with the Saudi Foreign Minister Pakistan’s extensive diplomatic outreach during the current crisis, including the mediation efforts for de-escalation and bringing both the United States and Iran to the negotiating table.

While emphasising the Kingdom’s leadership role in the Muslim Ummah, the Prime Minister stressed upon the need to forge unity within the Islamic countries at this critical time.

The Saudi Foreign Minister thanked the Prime Minister for receiving him and shared with him the latest Saudi perspective on the regional situation.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, National Security Advisor Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi assisted the Prime Minister.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Prince Faisal on Sunday held detailed discussions on the evolving regional and international developments.

During the meeting, they underscored the importance of dialogue, diplomacy, and collective efforts to promote peace, security and stability in the region, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a press release.

The development takes place as, at the invitation of DPM Dar, foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Egypt are visiting Islamabad from March 29 to 30 to dicuss the regional tension in the Middle East.
